A wedding is a joyous occasion! A day to be remembered by all who attend. Those who attended the wedding at Galilee where Jesus performed his first miracle, turning water into wine, no doubt remembered the events of that particular day for a very long time. We can read of this particular miracle in John 2 v 1-11.
The language of weddings is used to describe how Jesus will one day return to this earth. In Matthew 22 v 1-14, Jesus tells the parable of a certain king preparing for the marriage of his son. The message of the parable is that we are to be ready for the time when Jesus comes back, and that we are to be prepared.
Similar language is used in Matthew 25 v 1-13. Again the message is that we ought to be prepared for the return of Christ, or as Revelation describes it, the marriage supper of the lamb (Revelation 19 v 7-9).
A wedding involves a tremendous amount of preparation. It often involves some sort of service where it is sometimes appropriate to have readings from the Bible. The table below lists some readings from the Bible that we hope you will find useful in planning your special day:
The message that comes out of all the passages referred to in Matthew is that Jesus is going to return to the earth, and that the marriage supper of the lamb will take place. Just as a normal wedding involves a lot of preparation we too must be prepared for when Jesus comes back.
One of the best ways to find out how we ought to prepare ourselves is to read the Bible. Contained within the pages of this wonderful book, are the instructions as to how we can make ourselves ready for this momentous event. We have a completely free Bible reading course, available here, which is designed solely to try and help you to read and understand your Bible.
